Comedy Nights with Kapil – DDLJ 1000 weeks special: SRK didn’t want to work with Kajol after ‘Baazigar’ because of her talkative nature!

When Raj gave goose bumps to every girl in the audience as he played the mandolin with his typical carefree streak, little did the film’s director Aditya Chopra realize that Maratha Mandir would remain under the magical spell of the legendary love story for 1000 long weeks. Celebrating the momentous occasion, the team of ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ – Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, Mandira Bedi and Pooja Ruparel relived moments from the time that they were shooting on the movie.

And even after 19 years of this cult romantic film we saw a crackling chemistry between Raj and Simran. Oops! I mean Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

The two most powerful actors started their journey with ‘Baazigar’ and since then the films that they have starred together are superhits as in SRK’s words, “We never do flop films together. Our (Kajol and his) films have to be hit.”

The show relived and revealed many facts – known and unknown to the audience. While Shah Rukh Khan was in his usual charmer self, Kajol was giggles and sat throughout because of her leg injury. Shah Rukh was quick enough to show her plastered foot.
Shah Rukh ruled the stage for some time alone and he happily participated in audience’s request. When the King of Romance was asked about his feeling of romancing almost all the leading female actors in Bollywood, SRK quips that he doesn't feel anything and the girls feel whatever they want to feel. Kapil then questions him about why his characters always fall for either married or engaged women in films. As SRK was already married by then, he believed in romancing matured women.

In a hilarious conversation SRK reveals how Yash Raj narrates scripts. He reads it so fast that one cannot make out a word and even Madhuri Dixit couldn’t understand a word when ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ script was narrated to her. And Shah Rukh blindly without hearing script from him used to say yes as he believed in Yash Raj.

Shah Rukh reveals that he didn’t had faith in ‘DDLJ’ the day it released and thought it would flop and many big names in the industry had predicted so seeing Shah Rukh’s earlier negative image in ‘Baazigar’. Industry had thought he wouldn’t be accepted as a romantic hero. It was only Salman Khan who had full faith on DDLJ and told SRK that the film would reach greater heights than ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. So true!

On the same lines, SRK was also questioned about his relation with Salman which recently restored friendship. Here’s what he said: “There was nothing wrong between us that needed a patch up. Salman and I have been friends since 1991. His family is very kind, helpful and supportive. We got our sister (Arpita Khan) married and it has been a very happy occasion. We were always friends. Media have blown way out of proportion a news that never meant to happen. We are very good friends.”

“The friendship, love, connection that is present between us and our families is so strong, that good things always happen to us. Kajol, I feel is not an actor. She is a person who does things she really believes in. She presents (acts) herself with heart and that is why they always come out so good. I think that is why Kajol does limited films in which she believes in.”

Kapil Sharma felt the ‘kabootars’ (pigeons) played an important role in bringing Raj and Simran together. He asks Shah Rukh to name the kabootar in his own life when he was pursuing Gauri. He reveals that it was Gauri Khan’s brother who posed the greater problem in their relation and he had to bring his brother-in-law in control first and foremost.
Kajol reveals an interesting fact about her mother when she said that she never watched her mother’s films. Reason? Because when Kajol was kid, Tanuja used to play mother to actors in films who were much older to Kajol. Little Kajol didn't like when Tanuja played Mithun Chakraborty’s mother.
Similarly Kajol’s children, Nysa and Yug too don’t watch her films as they feel she always plays weepy characters. Her kids demand her too act in films like their father – like a ‘Golmaal’ series. And Kajol expresses her desire to act in ‘Golmaal’. Rohit Shetty are you listening.

When Kajol met Ajay Devgn for the first time on set she was surprised to see that he didn't talk to anyone for an hour. A chatterbox that she is, started to talk to everybody about why and how does Ajay not talk to anybody in an hour!
She also reveals that Ajay Devgn is amazing cook and cooks awesome Chicken Biryani. And all this by compulsion as she herself doesn’t know to cook! All have a hearty laugh.
Kapil catches the duo by asking if they ever had a disagreement on set. Shah Rukh reveals that Kajol was so talkative on sets that he, on the sets of ‘Baazigar’ decided never to work with her again. But history definitely written better things for SRK-Kajol.
DDLJ’s other cast members – Farida Jalal, Anupam Kher, Pooja Ruparel (Chutki – Simran’s sister) and Mandira Bedi join.

Mandira Bedi, who played Preeti in ‘DDLJ’ reveals that she was very shy during a particular scene and Shah Rukh’s touch was electrifying enough to give her shocked and shy look. Shah Rukh quickly asks Mandira to name her husband. When she names Raj, Shah Rukh says he doesn't need to touch anybody, his name is enough to cause flutters in stomach. Mandira Bedi laughs as Shah Rukh takes her hand to give a quick peck.
Farisda Jalal and Anupam Kher too talk about Amrish Puri and we get to know that he used to sing Baba Sehgal songs in between breaks.
Apart from all these fun moments, Kapil Sharma’s wacky family also joined the momentous celebrations and continued to have the DDLJ team in splits.
